A marketing checklist for Pitt County businesses

Most small businesses in Pitt County do not have a marketing problem. They have an order-of-operations problem. They are thinking about ads before anyone can find out what they charge.

Here is the order that actually works, using the tools on Pitt County Deals. Most of it is free and the whole list takes an afternoon.

    1. Claim the listing and finish it

An unfinished listing is worse than no listing, because it converts the visit you already earned into a bounce.

Finish means: real hours, a phone number that someone answers, the address, and photos of the actual work rather than a stock image of a generic office. Photos are the single most looked-at thing on a business page.

Start here if you have not yet.

    2. Put prices on your services

This is the highest leverage thing on the entire list, and most businesses skip it.

"Call for pricing" reads as expensive to anyone under forty, and it costs you the customer before you have had the chance to talk them round. You do not need an exact number for everything. A range works. "From $85" works. "Price on request" on the two genuinely custom jobs, with real numbers on the other six, works.

The free plan carries up to 5 priced services. Paid plans uncap it.

    3. Add products if you sell anything physical

If you sell things rather than only time, put them on the page with photos, a price and a stock status. Customers can order for pickup or delivery without calling, and each product gets its own page that search engines can index on its own.

    4. Run one deal

Being findable gets you considered. A reason to act gets you chosen.

A deal is not about discounting for the sake of it. It is about giving someone who is nearly ready a reason to stop weighing it up. One offer, clearly worded, with an end date. It appears on your listing and on the county-wide deals page, which is a page people browse specifically looking for a reason to try somewhere new.

Every plan including Free carries at least one live deal.

    5. Put an event on the calendar

This is the one businesses most often forget, and it is the only tool here that reaches people who were not already searching for you.

A tasting, a class, a demo day, a grand opening, a fundraiser you are sponsoring. It goes on the county events calendar with its own page, an RSVP and an add-to-calendar button. Free plans get one live event. Nobody searching for "things to do in Greenville this weekend" was looking for your business, and now they have found it.

    6. Answer quote requests fast

For work that cannot be priced up front, quote requests land in your dashboard from the form on your page.

Speed is the whole game here. The business that replies within the hour usually wins the job, not because it is better, but because the customer has stopped looking. Free carries 5 leads a month, paid plans uncap it.

    7. Reply to every review, especially the bad one

Reply publicly, calmly, once, and be specific.

You are not writing for the angry reviewer, who has already made their mind up. You are writing for the next hundred people who will read that exchange while deciding whether to call you. A measured reply under a two-star review has sold more work than any five-star review ever has.

    8. Share everything you publish

Here is the part almost everyone misses.

Your listing has its own page. So does each service, each product, each deal and each event. Every one of them has a share button covering Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, email and a plain copy link, and every one produces a proper preview card when posted.

Drop that link in a community group and it arrives looking like something: your photo, your name, your price. Not a bare blue URL nobody clicks. For a business with an active Facebook page, this is the fastest free distribution available, and it takes about four seconds.

    9. Only then: campaigns and loyalty

Once the first eight are done and you have customers coming back, the Premium tier adds the machinery for keeping them: a customer list with visit history, email campaigns, coupons, loyalty points and birthday offers.

The order matters. Campaigns sent to a list of eleven people are not a marketing strategy. Get found, get chosen, then get them back.

The whole list, as a week

    DayTaskTime
MondayFinish the listing, add real photos30 min
TuesdayPublish your services with prices20 min
    WednesdayPost one deal5 min

Under two hours across a week, and almost all of it free. That is worth more than most advertising budgets this county has ever spent.
